Scooter Rider Dies From Injuries In Wreck

Published: Dec 3, 2006

PINELLAS PARK - A man riding a scooter was killed Sunday afternoon after he was struck and trapped underneath a sports utility vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The patrol said it is still investigating the accident that occurred about 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of 49th Street North and 54th Avenue North.

The patrol said it appears the SUV, driven by Juan C. Perez, 17, may have violated the right of way of scooter driver Charles D. Neeley, 26, of Gulfport, and two motorcycles.

Emergency workers had to remove Neeley from underneath the SUV.

Neeley was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he died.

The patrol said Perez also hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by James A. Morrow, 59, of Gulfport.

The impact forced Morrow's motorcycle to the right and into the left side of a Honda motorcycle operated by Sue A. Morrow, 55, also of Gulfport. The Morrows were taken to hospitals.

Perez and his passenger, Virginia Perez, 43, were not injured.
